Getting Your Lawn Ready for Spring in Florida

Spring is just around the corner, and that means our Florida lawns are waking up from their winter slowdown. This time of year is all about setting the stage for a lush, green lawn that thrives through the warmer months. Here are a few simple things you can do to help your yard transition smoothly into spring.
1. Keep an Eye on Weeds
With temperatures rising, weeds see their chance to take over. You might start noticing dollarweed, crabgrass, and clover popping up. If you're seeing more weeds than usual, don’t worry—we've got solutions to keep them in check before they spread.
2. Watch for Lawn Pests
As the weather warms, lawn pests like chinch bugs and sod webworms can become active. If you see patches of yellowing or thinning grass, it might not just be drought—it could be bugs moving in. Early treatment makes all the difference!
3. Don’t Overdo the Watering
It’s tempting to turn on the sprinklers more often as the days heat up, but your lawn still needs deep, infrequent watering to encourage strong root growth. Aim for about ½ to ¾ inch of water twice a week, depending on rainfall.
4. Mowing Matters
Your grass is waking up, and regular mowing will help it grow thick and healthy. Make sure your mower blades are sharp (dull blades tear the grass instead of cutting it) and mow at the right height—around 3.5 to 4 inches for St. Augustine and 2.5 to 3 inches for Bermuda or Zoysia.
5. Fertilization & Strengthening
Spring is the perfect time to feed your lawn with the right nutrients. A well-balanced fertilization plan will green up your lawn and prepare it for the summer heat. Our spring treatments, March and April, help strengthen your grass and improve its resistance to pests, disease, and drought stress.
